Five Tips to Prepare for an Interview

Hello. My name is Ed Rogan. I am a Partner at The Valtas Group and I work in our executive search practice.

In this video, I’m going to offer five tips for preparing to interview. Before I jump into the tips, I want to set just a bit of context. At the Valtas Group, we specialize in working with Boards of Directors that are hiring CEOs and Executive Directors in the nonprofit sector. Even so, this advice does apply across situations and roles and I believe you’ll find something useful here regardless of the type of position you are seeking. Remember what they say, “luck is where preparation meets opportunity”.

As we reflect on a truly transformational 2020, the increased focus on race, social justice, and the impact of Black Lives Matter in our community, many of our clients and partners are continuing their own journey and growth in building toward a racially equitable workplace and society. The work is hard and uncomfortable, and progress will be made incrementally with challenges along the way.

In this post, an individual who both works in a nonprofit and has served on many boards shares their thoughts on the importance of advocacy, the role of board members in advocacy, and ways to make board members most effective.

This post is the sixth in a series about advocacy. In my last post, I shared an inspiring story about an organization that saw advocacy as part of the solution for its population. In the previous post, I interviewed elected officials to find out what they saw as effective.
