Community Homes, a housing provider in King County for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), has selected Marci Muhlestein as their new Executive Director. In discussing her new role, Marci has said, It’s an honor to join the Community Homes team and pursue its mission of expanding unique housing options and providing exceptional housing education. Building strong partnerships within our collective communities increase choices and create opportunities for individuals on the path toward an inclusive, fulfilling life. At the end of the day, it’s the relationship with the individual as they become part of a community of their choice and create a safe place to thrive, enjoy life and be more independent. It’s about being part of their journey by simplifying the complexity of everyday experiences. About Community Homes Community Homes believes that all I/DD adults deserve rich and meaningful lives in the community. To that end, they provide community-based housing and housing education for adults with I/DD in King County. Between their adult family home and shared living spaces they currently have over 50 residents utilizing their housing options. Their goal is to create independence in the community for their residents by encouraging social interaction, community involvement, and self-determination. They have been offering personal care, health, and wellness services to their residents as well as educational workshops for the community at large across the state of Washington since 1995. About Marci Muhlestein After suffering a spinal cord injury Marci experienced first-hand the challenges of navigating disability services and benefits. It was her experience that led to advocate for disabled people and their families. In fact, she has made it her life’s work to work towards building new programs and scaling existing programs to serve her community more completely. She has spent the last 25-years advocating for individuals with disabilities and working toward a future where adults with disabilities can independently live rich, meaningful lives in their communities. In her previous roles she has built strong partnerships to solve complex accessibility challenges and create sustainable solutions. In speaking of her work, one of her colleagues stated, Marci is a dynamic, optimistic and forward thinking leader. She tackles new problems and challenges without hesitation. She is dedicated to helping students with cognitive disabilities lead fulfilling lives... Marci is someone to be trusted with initiatives big or small. With a background in Occupational Therapy, Secondary, and Higher Education, she possesses a rare mix of skills that make her uniquely suited for the Executive Director role at Community Homes. In fact, she has previously held leadership roles at several other organizations aimed at equipping adults with disabilities to live enriching lives, such as First Place AZ, A Life of My Own, and Pushing Boundaries.
