The Environmental Coalition of South Seattle (ECOSS) is pleased to announce that they have hired Dr. Chiyo Crawford as their next Executive Director. Chiyo’s extensive professional experience, personal background, and thoughtful leadership style make her an excellent fit for the role. ECOSS Board President, Tisha Pagalilauan, has stated,

About Dr. Chiyo Crawford
Chiyo served most recently as the associate Director for the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, providing strong leadership across strategic planning initiatives, organization-wide operations, fundraising, and financial management. Prior to that Chiyo researched and taught on the subject of environmental justice at the collegiate level. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Tufts University and B.A. in English from the University of Washington and has published several literary criticisms since with an environmental justice focus.
She has dedicated her career to advancing racial and environmental justice, bringing a deep understanding of the subject to everything she touches. As a second-generation immigrant Chiyo knows first-hand the kinds of inequities that immigrants and refugees can face and is dedicated to empowering those communities as well as the BIPOC community using sustainable solutions.

At ECOSS their core mission is to educate and empower diverse communities and the businesses within them to implement and maintain environmentally sustainable practices. They provide environmental resources, education, and assistance to meet people where they are and address their fundamental needs.
