When asked why she is excited about the role Elise remarked, Having lived on Whidbey since 1998, I’ve been an ardent admirer of Goosefoot's innovative efforts to address many of South Whidbey's most pressing challenges. I couldn’t be more delighted and honored to serve in this capacity—and to get to work with Goosefoot's exceptional staff and board to strategically tackle the next set of priorities. Board President, Chris Salomone, commented, Elise brings the perfect combination of experience and personality to the table. Leaders with skills in strategic planning, fundraising, and financial analysis—combined with a heart-centered style of leadership—are what’s made Goosefoot the success it is today. We are thrilled that our new executive director will continue in this tradition. About Elise ![]() Promoting a healthy, just and equitable world for all has been a driving passion for Elise since her youth. For 25 years she directed, founded and transformed nonprofits with national and international reach. She has vast nonprofit leadership experience in Executive Director, board member, and board advisory roles. She established Cedar Wise Coaching to partner with philanthropic and other nonprofit leaders in their efforts to accelerate social change for the common good. Elise provides consulting services for nonprofits in transition. In her most recent role Elise was the interim Executive Director for Hedgebrook, an international writer’s retreat center for women in South Whidbey. Earlier in her career, she directed and founded nonprofits focused on environmental and justice health issues – fostering strategic partnerships and collaborations among researchers, health professionals, government officials and advocacy organizations to translate the emerging science on pollution into stronger public health policy. These efforts resulted in state, national and international legislation and statutes that protect vulnerable populations from exposures that lead to chronic disease. Elise served as the Founding Executive Director of the Jennifer Altman Foundation, Founder and Director of the National Institute for Children’s Environmental Health, and Co-Founder and Director of the Collaborative on Health and the Environment. She also currently serves on several nonprofit boards and volunteers regularly.
